Insight of the week:

On 8 October, China’s State Council Information Office issued a white paper to introduce the country’s actions on biodiversity conservation and share its achievements in the sector. The white paper, titled “Biodiversity Conservation in China,” said that China preserves biodiversity with creative and up-to-date measures, forming a new pattern of biodiversity conservation. The paper highlights progress and success on a number of climate related issues, centred under the theme of promoting and protecting biodiversity. As the country has continued focusing on pollution management amidst the promotion of sustainable development goals, there has been significant progress reversing the man-made impacts on the climate in areas such as reforestation, cleaning of rivers, and a focus on air quality. The whitepaper is also used to measure up the overall success of current programs in reaching their 2020 “Aichi” targets alongside the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. By promoting and publishing their own efforts to ensure biodiversity, they hope to continue efforts made to strengthen law enforcement and supervision and encourage public participation in conserving biodiversity.
